Tell Me About Double Skin Log Cabins

Our insulated garden cabins are a great addition to any property. They’re cost-effective and can be transformed into a garden office, garden room, gym or studio, offering long-term flexibility and comfort.

Superior Insulation & Flexibility

Double-skin log cabin sheds are made with two layers of interlocking logs for enhanced wall and roof insulation. Both layers are typically 44 mm thick, with upgrade options up to 68 and 90 mm wall thickness for superior thermal performance.

The two layers of logs are joined together with tongue-and-groove joints for improved insulation and structural stability.

Important Considerations for Insulated Log Cabins UK [“in the UK”]

If you are considering a double-skin log cabin garden office [“for your garden”], here are some key things to keep in mind:

  • Cost: Double-skin log cabins require more materials and labour than single-skin log cabins, which means higher upfront costs. However, the enhanced insulation makes them a better energy-efficient investment over time.
  • Weight: Double-skin log cabins are heavier than single-skin log cabins, so make sure your foundation is strong enough to support their weight.
  • Maintenance: Insulated garden cabins require more maintenance than single-skin cabins. This is because the air gap between the two layers of logs can trap moisture, which can lead to mould and mildew. You will need to make sure that you clean and seal the cabin regularly. Fortunately, we provide high-quality wood treatments as an optional add-on to prevent this from happening.

Location & Planning Permissions

Once you’ve selected your insulated log cabin, ensure the ground is level and has enough space for the cabin and any additional structures. It’s also important to check local planning and building regulations. Your garden building may require planning permission to stay compliant.

What Range of Insulated Log Cabins Are Available

Our insulated log cabins for gardens are a sustainable and eco-friendly option for those looking to add extra space to their outdoor area.

High-Quality Materials

Our insulated cabins are constructed of high-grade spruce timber, using a 44mm twin-wall structure with a 50mm cavity between the walls. The thick interlocking corner logs ensure a sturdy, dependable build.

Diverse Insulation Options & Add-Ons

Corner log cabins are also a great option if you’re looking to add extra living space. They provide extra protection, warmth, functionality and soundproofing. For added performance, we recommend upgrading to our Premium Fit double-glazed windows and doors, which helpreduce condensation buildup.

You can also add an insulated door or floor insulation for added protection against cold and damp. They partner well with an insulated flooring to create a comfortable space.

Simply select your preferred insulation options and add-ons, and we’ll handle the rest.

What Are The Benefits of a Twin Skin Log Cabin in the UK

Energy-efficient buildings have never been more important. Double walls offer excellent insulation, helping reduce energy usage while improving indoor air quality and overall comfort.

Here are the top benefits:

  • Energy efficiency: The air gap between the logs provides insulation, helping to regulate internal temperatures and reduce energy costs.
  • Durability: The dual layers of logs protect from wind, rain and snow damage.
  • Aesthetics: Wooden cabins have a traditional and attractive look, with large windows that let in natural light and fresh air.
  • Natural materials: We source our materials from sustainably managed forests that grow natural timber spruce wood, known for its ease of construction, rigidity and sustainability.
  • Soundproofing: The air gap between the thicker walls offers additional sound insulation, ideal for those garden offices or quiet retreats.
  • Custom Design: Choose from different floor plans, apex or flat roof styles, finishes, windows and doors to create a cabin tailored to your needs.
