Timber garages offer a versatile and affordable solution, providing a separate space without the need to extend your main property. They’re not just cost-effective but can easily be transformed into a workshop or a studio in the future, giving you long-term flexibility.

Location & Planning Permission

After selecting your timber garage, it's important to decide on its placement on your property. Ensure the ground is level for the concrete base and that there's adequate space for the garage building and any other planned structures.

Keep in mind that you may need to adhere to both planning permission and building regulations. While our guide offers a basic overview, it’s crucial to contact your local planning office and Building Control for confirmation. They can advise whether your timber garage requires approval to meet local legal requirements.

Have questions before ordering a new wooden garage? We've answered some common queries below. If there’s anything we haven’t covered, don't hesitate to reach out to our friendly team!

Can a timber garage increase the value of my property?

Yes, a well-designed and properly maintained timber garage can increase the value of your property. In addition to providing functional space for cars and storage, the natural aesthetic appeal of a timber garage can enhance the overall appearance of your home or garden, making it more attractive to prospective buyers.

Are timber garages durable enough to withstand harsh weather conditions?

Timber garages are highly durable when properly treated and maintained. High-quality wood and protective treatments make timber garages resilient against harsh weather conditions, including rain, wind and snow. However, it's important to ensure proper ventilation and drainage to prevent moisture buildup.

Log Cabin Kits recommends applying wood treatment, glazing, and fitting felt shingles with guttering as an excellent investment to prolong the life of wooden garages.

Do your timber garages come with a warranty?

Yes, after construction, you can rely on a two to five-year warranty from our suppliers. The two-year warranty is standard, but this is extended to five years for the wooden wall elements only. Be sure to check the warranty agreement with your supplier for specific details of your garden structure.

How much does it cost to construct a wooden garden building?

The cost of construction varies depending on the sizes, designs and level of customisation. Prices typically range from a few thousand pounds to tens of thousands.

If you’d like to know more, simply request a quote for an accurate estimate tailored to your specific requirements.

What kind of foundation is needed for wooden garages?

A timber garage requires a solid concrete base to provide stability and protect against ground moisture. It’s important to check that the base is level to ensure the structural integrity of your garage, especially for larger buildings.

Can I hire a local professional for the installation of my garden garage?

Yes, our cabin installation service is available UK-wide and is carried out by approved contractors. Simply select a local professional in your area, and they will arrive with the necessary tools and equipment to build your garden building.

You will need to ensure the site is cleared and the base is ready unless you have already pre-arranged for the base to be installed. The contractor will also require access to a power supply for installation.

Do you provide any anti-rot guarantees for wooden garages?

Most of our wooden garages are backed by 5–10-year anti-rot guarantees. This provides peace of mind that, with proper maintenance, our timber doors, walls and roofs are sturdy and won’t give any problems further down the line.

Can I customise the design of my timber garage?

Absolutely, our wooden garages are fully customisable in terms of size, layout and features. You can add windows, garage doors, storage sections, and even create a dual carport and workshop space tailored to your needs. You can also add protective covers to the garage roof like EPDM rubber roofing and roof shingles.

How do I choose the right size for my wooden garage?

It’s important to consider what you will be using your garage for before deciding on a size. Factors like the number of vehicles you intend to store, additional space requirements, and available space on your property should all be considered.

How energy-efficient are timber garages?

Timber garages are naturally energy-efficient due to the insulating properties of spruce wood. You can improve the energy efficiency further by adding extra insulation, like double-glazed windows.

How do I maintain my timber garage?

It’s important to regularly check for early signs of wear or damage, such as rot or pests. You should also apply wood treatments or sealants every six months during the wet season or at least once a year depending on the product used. Proper drainage around the base is also important to keep the structure clean and debris-free.
