Fitting Doors To Log Cabins Gap Above Door Too Big

If you have read our tips on fitting windows then you will already know the nuts and bolts for fitting the doors to your log cabin.

The recess for the door frame will again be oversized to allow independent movement between wall logs and the door frame.

Offer up the door frame into the opening and position it centrally. Note - this activity is best done with two persons. If the wall logs haven't yet settled properly, it is likely the gap between the top of the door frame and wall log above it will be greater than the door strip provided to cover this gap.

If this is the case, remove the door from the recess and position some scrap material, probably of 20mm depth between the wall log and the door frame raising the frame by this same amount. Make sure the spacer is no wider than the thickness of the wall log and that it does not protrude beyond the edge of the wall log.

By raising the frame in this manner, the gap at the top of the door will be reduced by the same amount as the spacer thickness.

Once you have achieved positioning the door frame correctly, continue to attach the door strips around the frame to securely fix into place.
