Construction Enhancements

Timber Cabins of Lithuania are the main suppliers of cabins to Garden Adventure. Not only is the quality assured, this manufacturer pays particular attention to detail, which we like !

Today, we are going to discuss the door and window "Opening Reinforcement Beam" and how this simple enhancement benefits the construction of a garden log cabin.

Door And Window Opening Reinforcement

Supplied with your cabin is a comprehensive installation guide. In here, you will find reference to the the door and window opening reinforcement - here is a sample of how you will see them listed :

In this case, the cabin is an Arabba 4x3. It has one set of double doors and two double windows.

Here are the full details listing the reinforcement beams :

Reinforcement Beams Detail

You will see that there are two listed at 1908mm long and four listed at 1030mm long.

The two longer items are for the door, the four shorter ones are for the windows.

Why do we put these in the kits ?

They provide stability for the logs at the openings and help prevent the logs from moving out of alignment.

Note : Where a door or window is less than 100mm from a notched wall board, these might not be included.

Don't be concerned that the length of the beam is shorter than the recess in which it is placed. This ensures that when the logs settle, they are not compromised by the beam and prevented from settling.

Here is a picture of of the beams being offered up to their recess :

If you need to use a screw or nail to hold them in place as you build the rest of the cabin, ensure only one is used and fixed in the lowest log.

What is cabin opening reinforcement & do I need it ?

So, our kits are manufactured by three different factories, each have their own benefits. We mostly use Timber Cabins. This factory include the door and window reinforcement as an enhancement to the construction of a garden log cabin. Where an opening is created within the structure there is a risk that the wall logs at this point become unstable, particularly for a door or tall window. By machining in a recess or slot into these logs, a section of timber is placed vertically into this slot and provides additional vertical strength, thus minimising the risk of a structure failure.

Do you need it. Well it is a good question. We have sold many cabins without this design, are they still holding good shape, that we can't answer. We believe it is a very worthwhile addition to the design of interlocking cabins and given the opportunity to have this included, we would definitely say a resounding "yes" !

Another good reason to consider purchasing your new log cabin for Garden Adventure - you know our product is going to work !
