So you’ve decided to invest in a flat pack cabin a very wise decision, indeed - especially given the pandemic situation and the fact that we’re all spending a lot more time at home. Log cabins can give you some much-needed extra living space at the moment.
But it can be quite confusing knowing what to buy and what you need to be aware of, so we thought we’d give you the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about log cabins. If you have any other queries, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
What size do I need?
The size of your cabin will be dictated by the amount of space you have outside for it, so make sure that you measure properly and buy the biggest shed that will fit comfortably into the space. Thinking about what you intend to use it for will also help you work out what size you need.
Do I need planning permission?
Typically, you won’t need to have planning permission in place for a log cabin but if they cover more than half your garden and not intended for domestic use, or if they’re over 3m high with a pent roof or 4m high with an apex roof, you will need to sort out permission.
How do I maintain my cabin?
If your cabin has been properly treated or painted from the outset, you won’t have to worry too much about maintenance but make sure that you check it regularly for any issues and that you keep the outside clean.
You may see natural splits and cracks in the wood over time as it expands and contracts with moisture levels, but you can sort this out with sealant or caulking.
