A survey of 2,000 people has revealed that the nation’s dream garden is 88ft long, with a summer house, a fire pit, and a built-in barbecue.
The survey of must-haves for the great British garden created a list of 50 items that are most wanted, and include a shed, summer house, and a log cabin, as well as features such as pizza ovens, log storage and yoga area, reports the Worcester News.
The survey was commissioned by roofing material suppliers Onduline and saw a half of respondents preferring a flat garden rather than landscape, while 32 per cent want stone flooring compared to 30 per cent who prefer decking.
The typically, garden-owners enjoyed their outdoor spaces for seven hours a week, along with three hours in their outbuildings. 13 per cent said they own a summer house, and 55 per cent own a garage.
Over a quarter of the use their outbuildings for relaxing, 15 per cent use them as a workspace, and 17 per cent use them as a hobby space.
Paul Duffy, managing director of Onduline said: “Outdoor buildings have always been a key feature of any garden, whether it is a shed or greenhouse, but this survey highlights that people dream of being more adventurous with their choices.
“Summer houses or animal pens may seem like very aspirational products but making the dream a reality is much easier than many may think.”
Also featuring on the list were a treehouse, a bar, and a workshop, which are all great reasons for building a log cabin the UK, as well as use as a shed or a summer house.
